Yep checked that scott, 400 quid TPF&T and limited to 7000 miles, which is fine for me as i work only 3 miles from my home. Also I am 25 next year which helps on insurance. ( if you do think that is high .. i only have 2 years no cliams on that policy)

Got any insurance quotes yet? Most insurers will run a mile when they hear it is 2.0L Maybe a big chunk of your budget, and often forgotten about.

The AMT subframe costs 1000ukp ... which is a fare bit but it comes with everything. Although if i knew it was going to be a long wait i might have built my own, as the whole reason for buying it was to save time in the build.

How much is the subframe your buying??... as I build mine myself I only had to pay for the mountings and the cost of drive shafts to be machined..

No... i have bought two new wings and a front panel. I want to try and squeeze the whole lot under a normal bonnet. I have been told you can do it by just extending the front by 2.5 inchs!

Your MAD..totally certifiable !!!!!
But then again I ran a fiat panda with a lacia beta twin cam in it.
I've often pondered putting a bike engine in a mini (g/f is a biker so I could strip her harley for parts) but seem to hit the problem of getting the drive to some sort of diff.
If the subframe wasnt so bloody expensive I'd go the budget root and plop a 1300 nova lump in, seeing as it has the 5 speed box and is ultimately more tuneable.
Keep up the good work

hey there guys, you seem like just the people i`ve been looking for.
I`ve just bought myself a `78 Clubby, now all its missing is an engine 3:-) and the interior.
i have been considering the almighty Vaux 16v conversion for some time, but limited funds means that all the work and parts are going to have to be built myself.
so far i have pretty much worked it all out, but i am left with a few problems. (which is where i hope you can help me)
1, the gear linkage; do you use some kinda rod, or use cables (as in the mr2)?
2, The inuduction side; i see that many people use weber carbs, but `cos funds are tight, is it possible to use the original injection system (not too worried about bulges in bonnet)?
3, driveshafts; do these have to be constructed? what outer cv joints do i use?
4, finally, subframe; is it possible to build my own, as this is my main worry, if it is possible does anyone have any plans or dimensions that would help me?
Please help me , all emails would be gratefully recieved.

hi my names damian im 17 years old ive bought a mini clubman for my first car. anyway i want to convert it to a rear wheel drive mini(would this be possible). i also want to put a 4 cyl engine( or an engine that give more power but eats less juice)what do u reckon?. basically i want to spruce it up to "street race" standard without spending too much money. do u think the wreckers could help in any way?. plz respond when you have the chance i know your busy and all, but it would be very appreciated. thanks. Rear wheel drive on not much money. Don't bother. It s not possible without spending serious money, you bodge it, you will regret it. Just get the standard A-series setup tweaked to a sensible level. Put 10 grand aside and some SERIOUS technical knowledge if you want to go RWD. You would need to modify pretty much every component on the car, rear engine, rear drive is possible but also EXTREMELY difficult, I have heard of succesful clubman conversions using a Mazda RX7 drive-train. Alternatively, buy an MGB and bung an estate on top.

need as much help as anyone can offer me. My mini project started 2 years ago with the original idea being a simple mg metro engine mildly tuned and basically the car a show car. However after 5 a series engines going pop in the metro I brought as a donor car I started looking for an alternative to a series. First idea was vauxhall 2 litre but could not find a 16v for love nor money anywhere for a good price. Then my mate bought a v-tec civic 1600 and within weeks had rolled it. He gladly sold me the engine, wiring loom, ecu and manifolds etc; 2 weeks ago for 200.
bargain!
Now I need to find the cheapest way to get it into my mini. I dont mind making the subframes as the lad I got the engine off is a fabricator and welder.
I can get hold of a k series metro front subframe but has any one got plans or designs or even just measurements that they can provide me with to make the subframes. Also is it possibble to fit a v-tec without the lengthening of the front end? if so how.
Any help, info, plans or advice would be much appreciated. I may be willing to pay a small price for designs or if someone will give me the measurements of their subframe. cheers.

How come you choose the 2.0l ecotec and not the c20xe? from a old astra gte with coscast head? they push more brake than the ecotec's stick a set of webbers on that and you will easy run 180+ brake unless the c20ex are too big for the mini im not sure.
