Ok this is the main part of this project (and website) fitting a Vauxhall 2.0 litre engine into a mini ! "It can't be done" some of you are saying ... well it can and has been done quite a few times now. I am using a subframe supplied by AMT (link later) who make a special subframe that bolts in place of the old subframe and then you can just bolt the Vauxhall engine into . Simple ! ok not quite that simple but that get 50% out the way !. I know i could have made my own subframe but time is short and i need this running by Christmas. I am planning on running the standard fuel injection system that came with the engine. Which is out of a 94 cavalier, the engine is called the 'ECO TECH' engine. This means it is only 136bhp , as the older 16v engine is 150 bhp. But 136bhp is fine for me, also on these new engines the injection unit is allot smaller and may fit in (not sure yet...will let you know when i try) Most people either fit Carbs or most of them fit a DTA injection system which will fit in a mini with no problem ( and you get more power). The reason that i have not gone this route yet is cost ! its 1300 ukp . I was going to run carbs until i found out that the ECO TECH engines don't have a dizzy ! So as i bought the injection unit with the engine i thought i would try fitting it ! Although i still need a wiring loom and ECU. |
